The Northern French Ardennes

 

A selection of some country inns and village hotels from Givet, close to the Belgian border in the farthest north of the region to Asfeld, just above Reims. This verdant countryside is dominated by the River Meuse and is endowed with beautiful forests, which are alive with wild boar, deer and birds, often to be found on restaurant menus along with Ardennes ham. Whether you are a nature lover or looking for a quiet break in an enchanting and different corner of northern France, we feel sure that you will enjoy this special locality.

Auberge de L'Abbaye - Signy L'Abbaye

To the West and set in the pretty village of Signy l'Abbaye is this ancient posting inn where rustic stone and a grandfather clock add to the atmosphere. The Auberge has been managed by members of the same family for over a century and the welcome is warm, the cuisine delicious and the surroundings full of character. Each of the en-suite bedrooms is individual and offers basic accomodation in a rustic french style.

Auberge Le Saumon - Buzancy

To the Southeast is the village of Buzancy, surrounded by rolling hills and meadows and not far from Reims with its numerous Champagne cellars. This old establishment has been newly renovated with a lovely french atmosphere. Each bedroom has been brightly and individually decorated with personal touches in both the bedrooms and en suite bath or shower rooms, comfortably combining the old with the new.

Auberge du Pied des Monts - Vouziers

To the south of the region on the river Aisne just 35 miles from Reims is the small, historical town of Vouziers. It is famous for the superb Renaissance front of the St Maurille's Church, built around 1540 and lovely country walks. The Auberge du Pieds des Monts is a typical French farmhouse inn with a lovely countryside atmosphere. There is a delightful restaurant and five rustic bedrooms, four of which are mezzanine style, all with en suite shower rooms.
