May 3, 2000 Dogs and cats can now travel from the UK on any of Hoverspeeds cross-Channel services, providing they return via Calais/Dover. The news means that cross-Channel travellers with pets now have a wider choice of services, including Dover/Ostend, Folkestone/Boulogne, and Newhaven/Dieppe. The trial Pet Travel Scheme was launched by the Government in February, allowing dogs and cats to travel for the first time in over 100 years without having to go into quarantine. To qualify for travel, pets must have a valid passport which shows they have been fitted with a microchip, vaccinated and successfully blood-tested against rabies, and treated for ticks and tapeworm 24-28 hours before entry to the UK. The cost of taking your pet abroad with Hoverspeed costs £15 per single journey. Pets have to remain in their owners vehicle for the duration of the voyage, but with crossing times from just 35 minutes, Hoverspeed has proved a popular choice for pet owners. Since the scheme began in February, Hoverspeed has carried over 200 dogs and cats.Press Release Media contact: Nick Stevens, Public Relations Manager Telephone: (01304) 865170 |
