February 14, 2000 Leading fast ferry operator, Hoverspeed, has launched a home delivery service for wine purchased at its hoverstores in Calais (France) and Ostend (Belgium). The new service provides home delivery within 72 hours anywhere in England and Wales for purchases of four cases (48 bottles) or more of wine. To launch the new service, delivery charges are discounted by 50% and start from just £10 for 4 cases of wine. Geoffrey Ede, Hoverspeed managing director, said: “Offering savings of up to 50% on UK high street prices, wine is the number one purchase for cross-Channel shoppers. With no limits to what customers can buy for their own use, hassle-free home delivery is the answer for those who bulk buy on the Continent. The scheme should also appeal to those who have safety concerns about overloading their cars.” Hoverspeed is the only cross-Channel operator retailing goods on the Continent to take advantage of the lower duty rates.
