HOVERSPEED UPS WINTER SAILINGS
High speed car ferry operator Hoverspeed is increasing frequency on the Dover - Calais route, with up to 11 return services daily during the Autumn/Winter 2002/2003 period.
The new hourly schedule will commence from 1 October 2002 from 0700, with eight return sailings daily during weekdays, increasing to 11 at weekends.
Compared to eight daily in 2001, the extra sailings will be operated by the same high speed fleet configuration of three Seacat catamarans, which have been a feature of Hoverspeed's Dover-Calais service during the current 2002 season. Crossing time by Seacat is just one hour.
The winter period 1 October 2002 to 26 March 2003, will also see Hoverspeed maintaining tourist links to Ostend, including European rail connections, by providing a twice daily coach shuttle transfer service between Calais and Ostend, connecting with Seacat services.
Hoverspeed will re-open its seasonal routes earlier in 2003, with both the Dover - Ostend and Newhaven - Dieppe services starting from 27 March 2003. For the Dover - Ostend route in particular, this is geared to cater for demand from the buoyant inbound market from the Continent, whose holidays begin two to three weeks earlier than the UK, during the run up to Easter next year.
Hoverspeed predicts that as with its successful seasonal service between Newhaven and Dieppe, now in its fourth year, that the Dover - Ostend route will continue its trend as a popular summer link, both for inbound visitors from the Benelux countries to the UK as well as an ideal option for the tourist market from the UK.
